This morning, I've seen far too many tweets about teachers, schools, and what they should/should not during this time. 50 million people died in the last pandemic. The information is in the archives. We've already seen what will happen.

The Carnegie Herald, December 1918
The clip above is an announcement of school opening while children/families die/mourn.

W/out vaccinations, the appropriate PPE and accommodations, and a pandemic under control...the results are inevitable. Here is another clip from 1918 with school enrollment alongside death.
A writer describes educators in ways that we STILL describe them today. The writer is advocating for them to be paid while North Carolina schools were closed! (States stances varied when it came to opening/closing. Sound familiar?)

Durham Morning Herald, October 1918
Cases increase rapidly in California, and a call is issued for teachers to use their first-aid skills and assume the duties of nurses' aids.

In the same space, "flu cops" were asked to enforce new rules and be forced to wear masks.

Oakland Tribune, 1918
Everything is in the archives. We've had a pandemic, and we lost so many due to a president that wouldn't fully acknowledge it, states that decided what was "best" for its economy over its citizens' well-being, and a ton of folx in denial.

Why are we repeating this?
Also, this.
