I’ve seen Michael Thomas fall to as far as WR12 in the latest dynasty rankings.

Is it that recency bias is so real that an injury riddled season wiped a record setting season from memories?

Is it the uncertainty of life after Drew Brees?

The answer is likely both.

SEE THREAD—
I’m not here to tell you why NOT to trade for or draft Michael Thomas, but rather why you SHOULD.

In his four games with Taysom Hill under center Michael Thomas caught 30 passes for 343 yards.

While three of those games were his most targeted games of the season— 12, 11 and 8.
He also had his three biggest games coming in that four week span, with yards of— 105, 104 and 84.

His two highest snap counts came in that span. Where he was on the field for 85-90% of the plays.

In that span he averaged 16.1 fantasy PPG. Higher than that of DeAndre Hopkins.
His 16 game pace with Taysom Hill was 148 targets, 120 receptions for 1,372 yards. That’s 257.2 fantasy points which would have been good for WR10– WITHOUT a single touchdown.

Prior to the 2020 season he averaged eight touchdowns per game, 32 since being drafted by the Saints.
Had his pace held with Taysom under center while adding just six touchdowns, two less than his career average, he would have finish as the WR4. Only behind Adam, Hill and Diggs.

I get that these are IFs. But you can’t bank on a player not scoring a single touchdown when ranking.
He thrived with Hill.

But, let’s say Winston is the Saints’ quarterback moving forward.

Well, everyone knows in 2019 both Godwin and Evans were in the Top 5 for fantasy PPG.

So, regardless of who’s under center the future remains bright for Thomas and those who roster him.
