Thought I’d do a wee further break down on all the elements that led to the disastrous second goal for Livingston on Tuesday⬇️
First things first, not being switched on at the corner. Taken quickly and instils panic. 3 players (Ferguson, Leigh and Kennedy) all move towards the ball. Leigh should stay where he is, Ferguson should shut down man on ball and Kennedy cut off corner taker
Livi player gets his shot off and Lewis makes a decent save. The panic set in by not being switched on for the short corner likely led to Greg Leigh’s rushed clearance which thankfully ricocheted into the path of an aberdeen defender to “properly” clear
While this could easily of had no impact, having no one up for the corner means Livi are able to take the ball down under no pressure higher up the pitch for the second phase of attack
Ball is played out wide now, notice the position of Ross McCrorie, he continues to move forward rather than dropping back in, even if only to pick up on possible second balls
With the ball now wide, it is a 2v1 with Kennedy and Leigh. Kennedy can afford to be aggressive and get close to Mullin with the back up of Leigh in behind if he is beaten. Kennedy is far too slow to engage allowing Mullin to put in a dangerous cross in a good area
A collective disaster from our centre halves. With Leigh out to double up on Mullin with Kennedy, considine and Taylor can afford to move infield meaning that Taylor is possibly in the position to head clear the corner. Hoban’s positional is probably the poorest of all
Collective disaster all round all likely started by the panic of the quickly taken short corner. No defensive organisation for the second phase is extremely apparent. Hopefully something McInnes picked up on but those hopes aren’t the highest
