Immediately after the Capitol insurrection, 147 Republican lawmakers voted exactly as then-president Donald Trump and the rioters had demanded - to overturn his election loss, after months of Trump’s baseless claims that the election had been stolen http://reut.rs/39RABE5
Reuters asked this question to the 147 lawmakers who voted against the certification of Electoral College results 👇
How many lawmakers do you think declined to answer or did not respond to repeated inquiries?
133.

This group includes the two senators who led the coalition of objectors, Ted Cruz and Josh Hawley, and Rep. Mo Brooks of Alabama, one of the most strident backers of Trump’s bid to overturn the election.
How many lawmakers do you think still believe the election was stolen?
Two of the lawmakers told Reuters they believed the election was stolen.

Two others who did not respond to repeated inquiries made similar public statements previously.
Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia say Trump lost due to voter fraud.

Two others who didn't respond have explicitly claimed in public statements that the election was stolen: Rep. Louie Gohmert and Rep. Ronny Jackson, both of Texas.
Of the 147 Republican lawmakers, how many do you think now say they do not believe the stolen-election narrative?
Ten.

Most of the 10 Republican lawmakers who now say they don’t believe Trump lost a rigged election had previously issued relatively mild statements that avoided any direct allegation of fraud.
The exceptions 👇
The refusal by the majority of the 147 lawmakers to take a firm stand on the truth of Trump’s central claim underscores the political peril they face as they struggle to appease voters on both sides of a rift in the Republican party https://tmsnrt.rs/3oGJrsg  @langejason @ccanipe
