2007- @davenemetz co-founds @BleacherReport.

Early 2012 - The site averages over 40 million monthly unique visitors.

Late 2012 - Time Warner acquires Bleacher Report for $175 million.

Here are 9 tips on growth from the man behind it all👇
1/ Growth takes time.

“Every overnight success has a long backstory.” - @davenemetz

Great accomplishments are the product of hours, days, weeks, and years of consistency and tiny improvements.

Consider @BleacherReport’s first six years of revenue:
2/ Promote your work.

Nobody will stumble upon your writing. You have to promote it.

@davenemetz - the guy who built @BleacherReport (!) - never shared himself as a personal brand until recently.

He says it was due to insecurity. Don't be afraid to put yourself out there.
3/ Clear thinking breeds clear writing.

“Writing is the most helpful way to work through your thinking and examine it in a more intentional way.” - @davenemetz

“You think you know something. Then you write it down and realize you didn’t know anything at all.” - @heydannymiranda
4/ Define your niche.

Bad news: you need a niche. Good news: you can find one anywhere.

There’s an @elonmusk newsletter w/ over 60k subscribers!

Once you pick a niche, then:

▪️Start a newsletter
▪️Build a community
▪️Add value
▪️Connect like-minded people
5/ Build a community.

You won’t have an engaged audience if you don’t build a community.

What makes a great community?

▪️Write amazing, niche content.
▪️Be accessible to your members.
▪️Facilitate member to member interaction.

6/ Leverage Reddit.

Here are some Reddit best practices:

▪️Create content that answers common questions.
▪️Interact with responses with a lot of upvotes .
▪️Post native responses that provide value, not links.

Share high value, native content, and your audience will grow.
7/ Experiment with paywalls.

Share your in depth content behind a paywall - die hard fans will buy it.

Share your best nuggets outside a paywall - casual fans will love it.

It doesn’t have to be an either/or decision.
8/ Master cold emails.

The perfect cold email can penetrate the most valuable inboxes.

Important people lack time, but they love specific asks.

▪️Get to the point
▪️Demonstrate value
▪️Get to the ask

9/ Beware of making your hobby your job

Working in the sports industry made @davenemetz burn out on sports.

To do a job well, you need to make it a process.

Creating a process for your hobby can strip away the joy, transforming it from enjoyment to obligation.
