I think much of it stems from large swathes of our online fanbase demanding and actually *expecting* some kind of “dynasty” after winning our first title for 30 years. league for years when clubs with bottomless pits of dirty money and the best managers can’t even manage it, is ever so slightly unrealistic. No team has ever topped 90 points 3 seasons in a row. The “Fergie era” will never happen again IMO. It was a perfect storm of a great(2/5)
manager, great core of youth players, massive financial advantages and consistent *ahem* favourable decisions. Again, I totally get aiming for the stars, we all do it. But some fans have an inability to be realistic and take all the mitigating factors into consideration (3/5)
before going apeshit at the players, manager and owners. The ironic thing is, without the sheer volume of injuries and in a normal season, I would have actually backed us to be the first team to top 90 points for 3 seasons running and win the title again. But people would do(4/5)
well to help their own stress levels by discovering how to readjust their expectations in accordance with the ever changing circumstances that have been thrown our way. It’s been pretty unprecedented. Finally, there’s a difference between being defeatist and being realistic.(5/5)
