I love the idea of having a focus word every year. But I also love the idea of having a word you focus less on.

One word I am trying to use less this year is BUSY and BUSYNESS.

Here is why 👇
Being busy continues to exist as a status symbol. Our sense of worth should not be equated to how much we have to do in a given day. Rather the simple joy, happiness, meaning and purpose we can derive from each day.

This @TheAtlantic article dives in. https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/03/busyness-status-symbol/518178/
Another symptom of busyness is that we start to put heightened importance on the time spent earning money vs. time spent on hobbies.

We get paid to work, we don’t get paid to go on walks or play frisbee. But that doesn’t mean time spent on leisure activities is less valuable!
Busyness can be fine if you are busy doing things you love.

But we often use “busy” as an excuse not to call friends or visit family, etc.

Being in a constant state of busyness builds a wall around you, where people start emails or texts to you with “I know you’re busy but...”
“Having time to slow down & reflect, we may realise that ‘busyness’ is not necessary for fulfilment & doesn’t govern our worth,”

“We might learn that we’ve been neglecting our wellbeing & things we value.”
