1) The House votes today to strip Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) of her assignment on the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget panel.

Expect a preliminary debate midday. The debate on the actual resolution to oust Greene from the Education panel comes mid afternoon.
2) The final vote hits in the late afternoon. It requires a simple majority.

The House Rules Committee dismissed a GOP amendment to also kick Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) off her committees. But the Democratic-controlled Rules Committee decided that initiative wasn’t “germane.”
3) The full House hasn’t voted to relieve any member of their committee post in recent memory. However, party leaders have removed fewer than a dozen members from committees over the past two decades.
4) Some were stripped of committee assignments because of legal or ethics issues, like former Rep. Bill Jefferson (D-LA) in 2006. Jefferson later went to prison after being convicted on corruption charges.
5) Former House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) bounced three members from committees in 2012 after he viewed them as not being team players.
6) House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) removed former Rep. Steve King (R-IA) from his committee assignment two years ago because of controversial comments about race.

Republicans are wary of today’s vote. It will document them as either being for or against Greene.
6) It will also prove to be a challenge for GOP unity. Republicans were touting unity and a “big tent” strategy after Wednesday’s lengthy conference session which dragged into the night.
7) Those who vote for Greene will be forced to defend their vote. Democrats already intend to weaponize today’s vote. They will use it to tie various GOPers who support Greene as “QAnon supporters.” Look for a split decision from some Republicans.
8) As for Greene, the decision by Democrats to kick her off the Education boosts her in some circles. And, without taking action, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who moved against King in 2019, relies on Democrats to do the dirty work for him.
