Indeed - it kind of was to be expected that the spiritual/cosmological wouldn't weigh heavily in the verdict, but now it is dismissed altogether. See my @monkeycageblog piece on this issue & my testimony on it https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2019/01/17/i-testified-at-the-icc-trial-of-one-of-joseph-konys-commanders-heres-what-the-law-doesnt-seem-to-understand/ #LRA #Ongwen https://twitter.com/Kjell_Anderson/status/1357296337666990088
Here's the 'evaluation' of my testimony in the #Ongwen verdict. A few things to unpack here, but a distinction has to be made between the 'truth' nature of spiritual powers as experienced by (ex) #LRA combatants and the truth nature of their statements (1/3)
E.g. an (ex-) #LRA fighter can strongly believe in the power of stone-bombs (and it can hence be truthful for him/her), but it is difficult to prove if the stone-bombs really 'worked' - see also the excellent work of @TimKelsall1 on Sierra Leone on this https://books.google.be/books?hl=nl&lr=&id=X4AhAwAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PR11&dq=tim+kelsall+sierra+leone&ots=Byp0xBKAFw&sig=nci7dGWBZEtvVCPUfIvhx60F7cA#v=onepage&q&f=false 2/3
...but glad to read my testimony was 'candid, comprehensive and clear'. It can be read here: https://www.legal-tools.org/doc/623a93/ (The verdict itself - 1077 pages! - can be found here: https://www.icc-cpi.int/CourtRecords/CR2021_01026.PDF) (3/3)
