The annoying thing with the Chibs era is how they throw in problematic tropes and then just leave them to stew, like with Tim Shaw the idea you don’t deserve to be called by your chosen name & the racial purity bit when the Doctor convinces the pure Daleks to kill the impure ones

See also: The Doctor broadcasts The Master’s ethnicity in WW2 and leaves him to be killed by Nazis and “the corporation is good, the protestors are bad” from Kerplunk. Not to mention multiple instances of “person indicates that they’re not straight and gets immediately massacred”

Chibs also seems to have inherited the anti-gun idea from his predecessors but consistently undermines it by not bothering to condemn other forms of murder. Like in Ghost Monument when the Doctor berates Ryan for using a gun on the sniper bots but then wipes them all out anyway.

I feel Chibs is a guy who understands that he should try and be progressive because it makes him look good but doesn't know how or why. He sees you get praise when you put gay people and POC in stories but not that it's an issue to repeatedly kill them after one line of dialogue.

There's a Broadchurch scene where Caroline (below) is a twat and Maggie asks how she can call herself a feminist and Caroline proudly declares she isn't and we're all meant to gasp because to Chibs the idea of being seen to be a feminist is more important than its implied values.

When you see progressivism as a brand image designed to endear you to The Left (TM), then you're never gonna understand WHY what you're doing is important or the actual impact of your words and actions - and that you can't offer hope to marginalised groups and then drop the ball.

This was sort of a meandering point but I'm sick of seeing Chibs seem in favour of representation and left wing ideas on the surface to make "the youths" happy, then proceed to tell his stories through a half-hearted, cynical conservative lens. Gimme some authenticity.
