I remember when I was still in my travel as hedonism phase and I was in Manali, India in a guesthouse and saw a man seated on the floor in contemplation. I would pass by him every day as he sat in relationship to the non-events around him of a simple room. Why? Now I understand.
Once we have found that everything we desire in this world doesn't really fill that deep need of being, all that is left is exactly that:

to be

When we sit in a simple room on our own this can become quite clear. As a beginner this can be torture, but over time it can be heaven
I have spent quite a bit of time in simple rooms being with the non-events around me.

Surrounded by objects of perception. Couches, chairs, simple things. I didn't realize that what I thought was the subject, my body, was also an object of perception.

How can this be heaven?
When we look for objects of perception to fill the great void of being, there is always a pain associated with it, a little tiny withdrawal. Most of us are doing this almost always. Life is filled with pain. Attempting to fill holes that can't be filled with objects.
When we look for the subject, the one witnessing all this, all the chairs, couches, beds, bodies, heaven becomes obvious. Sitting in a room alone can lead to infinite joy just as long as we don't fall into the trap of taking that joy and making it into something, grasping at it.
I'm not suggesting that one should plan to hide in their rooms for the rest of their lives mainlining cosmic bliss.

My next challenge is how to bring it into social relationships and BE while relating with other BEINGS (not necessarily their thoughts about what I am or they are)
