Today is #WorldCancerDay as well.
Spreading Awareness about cancer is essential as screening and early detection significantly increases the chance of remission and helps you get rid of the nasty C for good.
In Sri lanka there were approx 16,691 deaths from cancer in 2020 (stats from the WHO), thats without a doubt alot of people, but more than just stats, the mental and physical battle these people go through is just grueling and beyond comparison.
Now the question is when would you even consider getting yourself screened? What signs should you look out for?
A simple acronym to remember is CAUTION
C: Change in bowel/bladder habits
A: A sore that does not heal
U: Unusual bleeding/discharge
T: Thickening/lump in the breast/elsewhere
I: Indigestion/difficulty in swallowing
O: Obvious change in a wart/mole
N: Nagging cough/hoarseness
How to prevent cancer?
-stop smoking
-eat properly(a balanced diet)
-regular exercise
-little/abstinence from alcohol
-get proper sleep
-get your Vit D(helps reduce risk of colon, prostate &other cancers)
-avoid exposure to toxins/radiation/infections that contribute to cancer.
All these factors reduce the likelihood of cancer, but doesn't completely eliminate the threat.
Spread the awareness, live healthy and (God forbid) if any signs do show up to you, your family, friends or anyone, tell them to get it checked out right away.
