Sia put out several tweets, then deactivated her Twitter account (she‘ll be back).

She announced that she will put a warning about restraint before the movie and will remove the restraint scenes from all future printings.

That is good. But it doesn’t solve this entire mess.
This is Sia fixing something that became a problem for her herself - supporting traumatic, deadly prone restraint is not a good look, even for her.

Of course she’s being celebrated by her stans for it.

But the movie was harmful before we ever knew there was restraint in it.
It‘s not good enough to put a disclaimer at the beginning and still show the movie.

It’s not good enough to remove the restraint scenes from future printings of the movie.

The rest of the movie is still just as harmful.

This is still Sia refusing to give up her baby.
Make no mistake, the fact that Sia will add a disclaimer and remove the restraint scenes from future printings (IF that actually happens) WILL be used to silence autistic people who rightfully demand that the movie needs to be cancelled.

Cue „You lot are NEVER happy, are you?!“
Also make no mistake that this will be framed by everyone as Sia‘s idea, Sia doing a great amazing thing, Sia being kind and caring and benevolent.

Her stans are already at it.

In reality this was autistic self-advocates and activists FIGHTING Sia to stop Sia‘s harm.
This isn‘t solved unless „Music“ is cancelled

- it doesn‘t get shown in theaters
- no showing it online
- no printings of it are sold
- no awards/nominations

Unless Sia takes full responsibility, actively works to fix the harm she caused, and stays away from autism & autistics.
If Sia cares about AUTISTIC PEOPLE - not her own reputation, brand, fame, money - she

- cancels the movie in its entirety
- apologizes to autistic people
- tries to fix the harm she did to us
- never does autism-content again
- anonymously gives money directly to autistic people
Taking responsibility in this case involves investing time and effort to learn what you did wrong, why it was wrong, what you should have done instead...in short: learning from autistic people.

And pay them for it.

It‘s both reparations and paying people for their labor.
Sia is not the victim here.

She and her stans frame this as how hard this is on her, how much she cares, how everyone gave her false info, how badly she is treated by evil autistic bullies, etc.

That‘s a common tactic to silence marginalized people.

Please don‘t fall for it.
PS: Sorry I had to re-post the entire thread, as the first one got broken half-way through. The content is exactly the same.
