It's #SuperBowl
weekend & #BlackHistoryMonth
. We're kicking off our long-month celebration of the visual medium's greatest black luminaries with the greatest female vocalist of all time. Growing up, I saw this woman won every music award known to humankind. #WhitneyHouston

#WhitneyHouston was born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, NJ, and from an early age, the world knew that she was gifted with the voice of a generation. Considered the greatest female singer of all-time, Whitney's instrument was a divine privilege.
#WhitneyHouston's techniques influenced a new generation of singers, such as Christina Aguilera, Brandy, Monica, Aaliyah, Beyonce, and her successor, Academy-Award Winner, Jennifer Hudson. Her timbre, the crown jewel of her voice, resonates with thick lick luscious velvet tones.
Together with the incomparable Celine Dion and the powerhouse Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston Messiah of The Vocal Trinity. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera auditioned for their labels, singing Houston songs. Spears sang "I Have Nothing," while Aguilera sang "Run to You."
"I Have Nothing" and "Run to You" can be heard on the #TheBodyguard soundtrack. The Bodyguard original motion picture soundtrack sold 45 million copies and still the greatest selling soundtrack of all time. The Bodyguard starred Whitney and Kevin Costner.
Whitney Houston's "The Bodyguard" won three Grammys, including Song & Album of the Year, 11-Billboard Awards, eight American Music Awards, & five World Music Awards. "I Will Always Love You," originally by Dolly Parton, spent 14 weeks at number, dethroned by "A Whole New World."
#WhitneyHouston's contributions are as thick as The Holy Bible. To this day, 30 years later, Houston's Star-Spangled Banner is still considered the greatest National Anthem ever sung. Houston's Anthem became a Top 20 hit, the second since the Billboard's inception in 1958.
As mentioned in our #Brandy thread last June, Whitney Houston produced the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella, part of The Wonderful World of Disney broadcasting. Premiering on November 3, 1997, the telecast was watched by 60 million households.

Whitney Houston played the Fairy Godmother, as well as serving as the executive producer. She handpicked her protege, Brandy, to play the titular role of Cinderella. Thus Brandy is the first black Cinderella. The Voice & the Vocal Bible broke barriers with a colorblind production
Did you know that Whitney Houston also produced Gary Marshall's "The Princess Diaries," handpicking Anne Hathaway to play the beautiful Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia. Houston's love for the future gave her the foresight to design a world fit for her successors to reign.
