(1) Practicing the Presence of God: A Thread. Okay, this might sound weird to some of you, and to others, this sounds very exciting. So, I'm going to try to break this down with some Scripture.
(2) At the very beginning in the Book of Genesis, mankind was meant to practice the Presence of God, but Adam and Eve sinned and then in Genesis 3:8, they hid from the Presence of God. It's actually not healthy for us to not be in His Presence if you want to be technical.
(3) Take for example Psalm 16:11 "You will make known to me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand there are pleasures for evermore." (MEV). That very much sounds like we are supposed to Practice His Presence.
(4) You might ask, why is it important to Practice the Presence of God? In one word: intimacy, in two words experiential knowledge. You see the Greek ginṓskō or γινώσκω or Hebrew Yada` or יָדַע which can mean experiential knowledge, which actually means experiencing God!
(5) This isn't just the head knowledge stuff (although that does have its value), but this is like the Apostle Paul would say to Put on the Lord Jesus Christ or to Walk in the Spirit and Live in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-25; Romans 13:14).
(6) That's way in it says in John 17:3 "And this is eternal life, namely, that they might be having an experiential knowledge of you." (the Wuest translation). And think about it: Why does it mention in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge?
(7) And when you practice the Presence of God, don't you think that others won't notice? They will notice. They most certainly noticed when Brother Lawrence, a monk about 300 years ago, discovered the art of Practicing the Presence of God, high profile people flocked to him.
(8) That certainly sounds like something from Isaiah 60:1-5 , Romans 15:13, Philippians 4:4-13, 1 Corinthians 2:4, and Psalm 46:10. Brother Lawrence did this, by experiencing God, especially finding alone to for contemplative prayer.
(9) Because prayer isn't necessarily about what you say, but Who you spend time, especially when you drop down into your spirit and just commune with the Holy Spirit, which, again, look at Psalm 46:10, you know that He is God, and you get to experience Him.
(10) And you don't just have to experience Him in the quiet times, you can experience Him all the time, which Romans 6:11-14 and James 4:7 do talk about yielding to God, which means everything needs to be submitted, wounds, filth, everything and you become more like Him.
(11) And it doesn't just have to be the ugly moments, sins, or wounds that you get to lay down, but you can invite God into the ordinary moments of your life. Mowing the lawn? Yes! Invite Him, and go ahead and Pray in the Holy Spirit while you are at it.
(12) A rather blend birthday party? Most definitely! Invite His Presence and it won't stay boring! Because God brings the party, He brings the glory with Him! Why? Because if you truly experience God, then you can agree with me in saying that God is never boring, so invite Him.
