🧬One important gap in many state and local #publichealth departments -- and in many national programs as well -- is the limited number of staff with deep, practical expertise in #bioinformatics, #phylogenetics and genomic #epidemiology.
To help address these gaps, the @CDC_AMD program recently launched the COVID-19 Genomic Epidemiology Toolkit. https://www.cdc.gov/amd/training/covid-19-gen-epi-toolkit.html #training #SARSCoV2
The toolkit is a modular, scenario-based walk-through of some of the fundamental concepts of genomic sequencing and molecular epidemiology, and it builds on practical examples, including SARS-CoV-2 outbreak investigations, analysis methods and surveillance applications.
The amazing @CDC_AMD team (Nancy Chow, Michael Weigand, Shatavia Morrison and Marta Gwinn) pulled together some wonderful introductory sessions on genomic #epidemiology, SARS-CoV-2 #genomics and basic #phylogenetics. https://www.cdc.gov/amd/training/covid-19-gen-epi-toolkit.html#anchor_1608623359
They worked closely with state & local partners to develop the first in a growing set of case studies. Hayley Yaglom from TGen North presents on SARS-CoV-2 surveillance in AZ, and Nick Lehnertz discusses investigations in healthcare institutions in MN.

These are the first few videos in the toolkit -- appreciate feedback and ideas from the community. More examples to educate and inspire are already in the works, and we hope to continue to build upon this format. Check it out below!
