1/ (Thread) Why is Merrick Garland the right person for the job of Attorney General?

A story:
I was stationed in the Air Force in Midwest City, a suburb of Oklahoma City in the mid 90's. I save newspapers from historic events in my lifetime. Here are some:
2/ A local radio station mixed โ€œLightning Crashesโ€ by Live with interviews by those who survived. Warning: heartbreaking.
3/ Why am I going back in time? Because it's the foundations of what's happening in America right now.

It's been 25 years since Timothy McVeigh changed America forever. Why does it matter now?
4/ In 2020, while Governor Gretchen Whitmer was trying to implement restrictions to control COVID-19, a plot was underway to kidnap and kill her by the same militia that Timothy McVeigh identified with.
7/ "Newspaper headlines and TV news crews pounded Michigan Militia members after it was discovered that the men responsible for the April 19, 1995, bombing -- Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols -- may have attended militia meetings before they blew up the Alfred P. Murrahโ€ฆ
8/ โ€ฆfederal building in downtown Oklahoma City."

25 years later:

This is important, because now we have the Capitol building attack. Its roots are embedded in Timothy McVeigh. White supremacy is its foundation, as well as hatred of government.
9/ Ed Bradley of 60 minutes interviewed McVeigh in what was described as one of the most chilling interviews ever conducted by him:

This is why it's important now. White supremacists were emboldened by Charlottesville and other events.
10/

Several weeks after it happened, we were finally allowed to go downtown to see it. This is just one of my photos. We couldn't get really close, in most cases.
12/ We need someone who can investigate the injuries of over 140 Capitol police officers and DC police officers. We also need justice for Office Brian Sicknick, who was laid to rest last night.
13/ The FBI has not yet discovered who murdered him, if he was killed by one of the insurrectionists.

Justice is the only way for America to heal. Do I believe in the death penalty? Not really. An eye for an eye is not my thing.
14/ The latest news is that the Democrats have taken the gavels for committees in the Senate. That means Merrick Garland will soon be confirmed. Godspeed, sir.
