I know the parallel has been made before but s0los remind me of how some ppl fall into hate groups. Not as serious, of course, but the motivation is similar. We all just want to belong. And in this amazingly huge fandom, they probably feel invisible or unimportant.

That’s why they attach themselves to one member, convincing themselves that they are needed. That it is crucial that they save that member from the evils of the company or even the other members. Bc if they don’t speak for them, who will? They are needed!(2)
Look at the hate groups in the US. Many members are former military. In the military, they had a place to belong. They were told that their position was vital & their job was important. They felt powerful. And then...they were discharged. They miss the camaraderie & purpose. (3)
They’re drawn in by the allure of hate groups bc FINALLY they’re needed again. They aren’t invisible! They’re loud & united & it’s them against the world, right? I feel like s0los have the same mentality. They feel small & insignificant, and they need to belong to a cause. (4)
That cause almost always is about pushing back against some imagined adversity and not at all about loving & supporting the member. They glorify & romanticize toxicity and abuse bc they think it proves their devotion. Only THEY can love that member like they deserve. (5)
Just like hate groups. You’ll find that most if not all members of hate groups have sick fixations & histories of violence. The hate group gives them an outlet in a space where they won’t be judged or held accountable. S0lo accts do the same, encouraging harmful behaviors. (6)
Of course this does not compare to the sick shxt perpetrated by hate groups. But looking at how new armys & tiny accounts fall into s0lo stan twt, it’s pretty evident what they seek. They want to be part of the loud & oppressed bc it makes them feel seen & significant. (7)
How do we rational armys combat this? Idk honestly. But considering how these things usually work, I think it’ll get worse before it gets better. And when it bubbles over, it’s gonna get truly ugly
