Me personally, I moved out of a major metro area to about 45 minutes out of the city. I'm a carpenter so if you put me in the woods with a hatchet I'll have a shelter in a few hours and a house within a month. First and potentially last thread

Timber framing is simple. No need to be a master carpenter. It can be done with stone age tools if necessary. If you have some money buy a little plot of timber land somewhere you can bounce to if shit hits the fan.
You're going to need food. Even if you live in a city now, you can start raising chickens. This is beneficial in a great many ways. Buy a hunting rifle and start learning how to shoot, hunt and skin a deer.
If all of these options are unavailable to you. Make some friends who know this stuff. Or you may just have to go along with whatever horrible shit the powers that be demand until you get a chance to get out.
That being said I hope I'm wrong. If I am and you prepared like I recommended here, you now have a plot of land which will increase in value, you're saving tons of money on food and you're physically healthier for it.
