THE CHICKENS CAME HOME TO ROOST

1. I've tweeted about this before & made enemies through it, but I think my take on events is correct.

The price for a general election in 2019 was the WA.

2. The mess we find ourselves in now is due to interference in proper parliamentary procedure being replaced with cross Party skulduggery on the part of the remain MP's.

3. The Benn Act forced the PM to seek an extension (& tried but failed to introduce a softer deal via the Kinnock Amendment). At this point Boris put on a brave face, but he had his hands tied behind his back during negotiations with the EU due to the Act.

4. What should have happened to the newly negotiated deal was a vote of approval in the Commons, but the Letwin Amendment put paid to that, stipulating the implementation legislation be voted on (which, unlike the treaty, Parliament could amend at will).

5. Everything pretty much collapsed thereafter when the govt. prorogued. So following the 2019 election Boris was left with the treaty he'd negotiated whilst under the constraints of the Benn Act.

6. I honestly don't see a way forward without some EU good faith & that is notably absent. Placing a hard border between Ireland & Northern Ireland without notice to the 2 countries was a hostile & arrogant act.

7. To prevent vaccines entering NI via ROI - what the hell is the matter with these people, that they think it's a legitimate excuse to breach the Protocol?

Preventing 2nd doses of Pfizer vaccine, legitimately purchased by the govt.

8. So we are where we are, stuck with the WA inherited from the previous administration with a few tweaks.

It could work with a spirit of mutual benefit, but the EU now seem openly hostile.

9. Something has to give & it has to give soon.

The Lords may pontificate about "breaking international law", but I'd like to think on this occasion they see why there's a need to disapply direct effect of EU law. It's to protect our Union from being carved up via annexation.

10. Perhaps the EU think we'll cave & opt for a closer arrangement through desperation? Or maybe they just want to destroy?

But they're playing fast & loose & at this point it's becoming difficult to see what we've got to lose by calling it a day.
