"communism killed many people!"

under capitalism:

- 8,000,000 die of hunger
- 4,000,000 die from curable disease
- 8,000,000 die from a lack of clean water

per year. not because we can't solve these problems, but because it's not profitable to do so

i'm seeing people are misinformed about the death toll in the soviet union, china, etc due to "communism". most of this misinformation comes from the so-called "black book of communism" which has been thoroughly debunked by numerous scholars, pls watch this
the authors of this book were obsessed with reaching the 100 mio number -for whatever reason- so they included deaths from wars which happened under or with the soviet union, which doesn't make much sense. you wouldn't count the holocaust deaths bc they happened under capitalism
you can still criticize communism, just make sure your sources are valid and not influenced by cold war propaganda. for more complete historical context, think about the countless times the US illegally intervened all over the world to undermine social progress bc of oil/business
correct, these are just some of the many mistakes/misrepresentations in that book https://twitter.com/aboIishamerica/status/1357333409778069504?s=20
here also a thread on the various coups committed by the west to secure markets, natural resources, access to cheap labor all around the world. if you say "socialism failed", you need to explain how it failed by itself, without the intervention https://twitter.com/jasonhickel/status/1348992746477002753?s=20
one common mistake people make is they compare a wealthy european country to say, cuba, and conclude that capitalism is superior. but this is false, you have to include colonialism or modern globalization which puts the global south(red) at a disadvantage & makes the north richer
i'm from switzerland, which is probably the richest country per capita. we have basically free healthcare & college, but there is just mountains & lakes here. our privilege largely stems from our colonial history or the big banks &corporations exploiting the wealth of the g south
watch this excellent clip in which michael parenti explains the exploitation of the global south
