i've been remembering things about my personality as a child and each time i'm reminded that i have always been a little neurodivergent weirdo.

for example, opening up thesaurus . com and remembering that as a kid i had a pocket thesaurus on me at all times.
the reason that i carried a pocket thesaurus with me is because i often did not understand words people were using, and my brain makes associations faster than it integrates definitions, so i would look up synonyms and it would help me find context for what people were saying.
i also have a hard time with certain words. some words feel too sharp in my mouth, some get stuck in my throat, or aren't quite right, so whenever i don't like a word, i use a thesaurus to see if there are alternatives that i enjoy.
if diagnostics, testing, and research weren't racist, sexist, and ableist then a lot more neurodivergent people would have a formal diagnosis of ASD and ADHD but bc we weren't a white boy in the 2000's we just got labeled quirky and annoying and got mentally ill instead
if someone with autism is talking about their experience and you get the feeling that for the first time someone is talking about the world the way you experience it that's absolutely something worth looking at,

gently, without your own internalized shame, okay?
this thread became something unintentional, it really is funny to me that i used to carry around a word book because i didn't understand people and also words taste bad but also, self diagnosing can be an absolutely life saving lens to view urself through, i yield my time.
