reminder: there's a UCP bill proposing that April be officially recognized as "Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month" in Alberta

Why? To recognize impacts & promote awareness.

OK, but why does Bill 205 not mention Indigenous people at all? #ableg
this bill specifically mentions by name: Armenia, Holodomor, Holocaust, Rwanda, Srebrenica, Yazidis, & Rohingya
the UCP government's mission here is "to prevent acts of genocide by encouraging the Government to develop strategies to combat the causes of genocide"
that's a fine and noble mission, but to state that while ignoring the literal genocide that happened within the borders of AB? That's STILL happening within the borders of AB?

you can't make this shit up... is this trolling?

there's no mandate for this from the UCP platform
is this some sort of extension of Jason Kenney's dislike of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) or some kind of childish rebuttal of Justin Trudeau, who at least acknowledges the MMIW crisis as a genocide?
Matt Wolf has already been on twitter defending this, so this is not an accident, it's very much on purpose
the question is why? is this what Albertans largely believe?

are we cool with Indigenous genocide denial being official gov't policy?
