Been moving house all day, so have only seen Gove’s letter now. A few thoughts...
1. It’s Gove. His appalling historic views on Ireland mean he should be allowed nowhere near anything related to Ireland by any U.K. govt serious about Ireland. /1

2. No one should be surprised that Gove would try to leverage the Commission’s recent error on Art 16 of the Protocol. That’s to be expected. Nothing to see there. Apart from the limited and specific hypocrisy obviously. /2
3. Most of page 1 (the implications bit) should obviously go into the bin. Tactless, hypocritical, undiplomatic and aimed purely at a domestic base. Silly to say the least and detracts from the seriousness of any points in the rest of the letter. /3
And then, ironically, the threat to use any mechanisms at the U.K. govt’s disposal (which would also include Art 16) to complete the hypocrisy full house.
But, sure, the Telegraph will eat it up and that’s all that matters. 4/4
