Three years ago, the Bob Mould Band played the Super Bowl LIVE.
In Minneapolis.
Outside.
It was 15 degrees.
The show had been pitched to us as a lineup of Minneapolis musicians in a “heated tent”.
A couple days before we flew to in, I saw video of The Time performing where we were scheduled to play. I noticed they were wearing heavy long coats and you could see their breath.
I sent the video to Bob and Jon. They also had different presumptions about what a “heated tent” would be.
When we arrived on site, we were stationed in a nearby building with Soul Asylum and The Suburbs. Our tour manager informed us there was snow on the stage. I asked if they might be able to sweep it off.
“No because the stage floor is astroturf”
It ended up being fun because there were thousands of people there (I couldn’t see where the crowd ended) and the three of us laughed a lot due to the absurd circumstances.
After our set, Bob walked to the edge of the stage with his guitar. The crowd cheered for what seemed like 5 minutes. A strange and wonderful memory.
