I try not to do discourse on this account, but... You can defend fictional shipping without throwing people who have unconventional attractions under the bus. No seriously, hear me out.
The primary method of defending shipping is that the shipper only enjoys it /in fiction/ and would never find themselves attracted to these things in real life. This automatically forces survivors especially to bury their attractions to avoid being labeled as immoral.
But some people are lying for their safety and that's just a reality. Plenty of people DO have unconventional attractions in reality. Some are things that can be acted on safely with consenting adult partners and some are things that could never be acted on for whatever reason.
And that right there is the important part. I do not care what or who you're attracted to fictionally or in reality, I care that you are making safe, moral, legal decisions and sticking to risk aware practices with /consenting adult partners/ and looking after yourself and them.
And I just get incredibly tired of shippers defending their fictional practices by calling anyone who likes those things in reality evil or corrupt or immoral because it simply isn't true. And you can't stand on others to lift yourself up as more moral.
Human sexuality is inherently nuanced and we will never understand what makes some of us the way we are. Is it nature, is it nurture, we sure as hell know a lot of us developed this or that from trauma and that's a whole other can of worms.
Anyway, I love people and I think they should be free to feel as they feel without being called out for it as long as their actions never harm other people. Think your thoughts, engage in your fiction, I'll never say DNI here because of those things.
