AOC faced no risk on day of the riot as rioters never breached the building she was in, she was protected by armed Capitol Police. It's understandable, however to be scared in that scenario. However, last year we saw one of the largest increases in homicide in American history.
Politicians understandably enough are very concerned about threats to themselves. Shouldn't they be equally concerned about threats to their constituents? I've barely seen any lawmakers mention the thousands of excess deaths in shootings/homicides last year.
People in these communities don't have armed security who are willing to walk into harm to protect them. In cities with inadequate policing sometimes people have nobody to protect them. Do they not matter just because they're poor and not famous?
"New York City recorded 447 homicides for the year as of Tuesday, a 41 percent increase over 2019 and the largest tally since 2011."

How many Members of Congress have proposed any concrete plan to stop this wave of violence? Not just platitudes. Platitudes don't stop bullets..
Policing is primarily a state/local matter but feds have a few options, one they can use federal grants to reinforce police departments, which are all under budgetary stress because of the state of the economy. Second feds can supplement police directly w/FBI, ATF, others.
When politicians are in the general vicinity of danger, even when nothing happens to them, they demand a huge response. When their constituents are murdered in such large numbers....what's the response? That's inequality, too.
The political/media ecosystem prefers afflicting their perceived enemies over comforting the afflicted. If ISIS or white nationalists were behind the surge of homicides last year every politician would be talking about it. If it's just poor people losing their lives, nobody cares
A deadly capitol riot is a security failing and a serious matter, but the people involved are being arrested and the capitol is being turned into fort knox. Basically nothing is being done in response to huge mass murder of poor people in Chicago, MPLS, STL, Knoxville, etc.
