Fata Morgana explores a lot of sensitive and taboo topics & issues very respectfully, but backlash is bound to happen whenever one of the main characters is morally grey/questionable, so I half expected it but the fact that several people have downright called an - (1/4) https://twitter.com/aofijii/status/1357041943969222664
- unethical trait "endorsed" & a disgusting addition to the story when its purpose is to highlight a character's schizophrenic tendencies & inability to express themselves properly, which is even criticised throughout the story by multiple characters around him, and the - (2/4)
- character in question is even self aware that it's wrong and have demanded an official apology from the author was a very rude awakening for me. Fiction which criticises iniquitous subjects often gets the opposite treatment as in it's treated like an endorsement, - (3/4)
- which is why I now understand why authors often tend to shirk away from exploring controversial themes because irrespective of how well they're successful in getting across the message, people will inadvertently misinterpret it and spread false narratives. (4/4)
