Out of all the priorities before our new government, I’d argue that nothing is more important than House Resolution 1: The For The People Act (HR 1).

This law, if passed, will revitalize our Democracy. It will not fix everything. But it will give America a fighting chance.

1. MAKES IT EASIER TO VOTE—It creates near automatic voter registration and same day registration, taking away steps that block votes. No other Almost no other Democracy requires registration. Some require voting!
2. MAKES ALL VOTES EQUAL—The legislation goes a long way towards ending Gerrymandering.
3. OPENS UP DEMOCRACY TO REGULAR PEOPLE—Under the law, all candidates who agree to reject big donor cash will have matching funds.

The law creates a fund paid for by penalties from financial crimes, which will give you six dollars for every dollar you raise in small money! This applies even to primary challengers! Thus welcoming diversity of thought, new choices.
Also, it requires donors to expose their identity, thus fighting “dark money.”
Beyond the obvious reasons, this legislation is important because we are about to enter a possible era of perpetual minority control by the Republicans.

Democrats far outnumber Republicans nationwide. But our majority, is thin:
We hold only 223 seats. We need 218 for a Majority. Once the census data is released, house seats will be reapportioned.

Because Trump rigged the census, blue states are losing seats and red states are gaining seats.
Further, redistricting is largely controlled by Republicans in most states, which makes matters even worse.

The GOP leaders have become masters at gerrymandering, gaming the system, using it to maximize every vote though advanced mapping technology and analytics. Thus, Democrats will lose seats though hyper-Gerrymandering unless this law is passed.
Thus, we are at a crossroads. We are about to enter an era of increased democracy on one hand our PERMANENT MINORITY RULE on the other. The future depends on HR 1.
The GOP has gutted finance finance reform, destroyed civil rights protecitons, took gerrymandering to a master level, dark money, overrides voter rights act. We need HR 1.
