ok. let's see.

The Hortons of Salem #DAYS

In the beginning, there was Tom & Alice.....
In the original backstory, Tom Horton & Alice Grayson were married in 1930. Tom's parents were William & Adelaide Horton. Alice's parents were Sid & Abigail Grayson. It is said that Adelaide is who originally began the Horton Christmas Ornaments tradition. #DAYS
Tom & Alice had 5 children -

1. Thomas "Tommy" Horton Jr.
1. Adelaide "Addie" Horton
twins - b.1931
3. Michael "Mickey" Horton (b.1932)
4. William "Bill" Horton II (b.1939)
5. Marie Horton (b.1942) #DAYS
Dr. Tom Horton Sr. was played by Macdonald Carey from the 1st episode (1965) until the actor's death in 1994
Alice Horton was played by Frances Reid from the 1st episode until the actress' death in 2010 (although due to health, Alice was last seen in 2007) #DAYS
note: although Tom & Alice married in 1930, it was revealed that due to a convoluted set of events revealed in 1989 that their original marriage wasn't valid, so they rewed again (legally). Merely an excuse to give then a big supercouple 80s wedding #DAYS
Tom & Alice and ALL of their children (early 70s) #DAYS
(back: Mickey, Tom, Tommy, Bill
front: Addie, Alice, Marie)
now let's focus on the original 5 children - eldest to youngest.

At the time of debut, Tommy Horton was presumed killed in action in Korea. Tommy had a wife Kitty & they had a daughter Sandy #DAYS
Tommy, however, was not dead. He had amnesia & plastic surgery & was unknowingly living under the name Dr. Mark Brooks. It is under this name he arrived in Salem with brother Bill in 1967 played by John Lupton (who would play the part off and on until 1980)
Not knowing of his true identity, Mark began dating his baby sister Marie. The truth of Mark/Tommy's identity naturally put an end to that relationship. Knowing Tommy was alive brought Kitty (played by Regina Gleason) & teen Sandy to Salem #DAYS
Tommy & Kitty's marriage was NOT good. She was constantly on the make for a marital upgrade & had a penchant for married men she wasn't married to. Kitty had a heart problem & died of a heart attack in 1969 during a fight with Bill whom she was blackmailing. #DAYS
Tommy would continue to drift in and out of storyline as needed until he was last seen in 1980. He was once engaged to Mickey's ex-fling Linda Phillips, but she dropped him to marry wealth Bob Anderson. In the early 80s, Tommy was said to be living in Hawaii #DAYS
At one time in the late 80s, there was discussion of spin-off of #DAYS set in Hawaii focusing on Tommy & Sandy titled Pacific Lives.
moving on to Tommy's twin Addie

Addie was played by Pat Houston (1965-1966) & more notably by Patricia Barry (1971-1974). When #DAYS began Addie was wed to wealthy banker Ben Olson & they were the parents of troublesome teen Julie & younger Steven
Ben & Addie were very involved in their own social lives & social standing, often neglecting Julie, causing her to act out. Ben (played by Robert Knapp) & Addie took Steve & moved to Paris in 1966, leaving Julie to live with her grandparents Tom & Alice. #DAYS
After Ben Olson died in Paris in 1971, Addie returned to Salem & promptly began to clash with Julie, often over Julie's relationship with Doug Williams. #DAYS
When Julie refused to abandon her son and leave her then husband & run away with Doug, Addie ran away with him instead & married him in 1972. The Addie/Doug/Julie story was a leading storyline for several years. #DAYS
Later, Addie learned that she was suffering from leukemia and pregnant. Addie refused treatment out of fear it would harm the baby. Addie gave birth to her & Doug's baby daughter Hope Alice Williams on January 10, 1974. #DAYS
Addie would survive leukemia, but ended up dying in 1974 when she was hit by a speeding truck, sacrificing her own life to push Baby Hope's stroller out of the way, saving the baby's life, leaving Hope without a mother & Doug a widower #DAYS
An attorney, Mickey Horton was played by John Clarke (1965-2004), Richard Voigt (2004), John Ingle (2004-2006), & Kevin Dobson (2008). Originally, playboy Mickey dated divorcee Diane Hunter whose teen daughter Susan was Julie's BFF.
#DAYS
After Diane & her ex reconciled, Mickey fell for his brother's ex Laura Spencer as they worked to clear Susan Hunter Martin of murder charges. Mickey & Laura wed in 1968. #DAYS
Laura gave birth to "their" son Mike in 1968, but the real father was Bill because Mickey was secretly sterile - secrets that Bill, Laura, & Tom would keep until Mike was grown #DAYS
Mickey & Laura's marriage was not a happy one due to the Mike paternity secret, Laura's lingering feelings for Bill, & Mickey's own philandering ways. Mickey was often not a noble person and had an affair with his secretary Linda Patterson. #DAYS
when Linda (played by Margaret Mason off and on through the 70s then Elanie Princi in 1984) came up pregnant, she tried to claim Mickey was the father. Baby Melissa was born in 1972. Bill, Laura, & Tom knew Mickey couldn't be Melissa's father, but couldn't say anything #DAYS
When teen Mike found out about Mickey's affair, the two argued, causing Mickey to suffer a heart attack. In the hospital, Mickey suffered a stroke, developed amnesia, and wandered away. #DAYS
Presumed dead in Salem, amnesiac Mickey took the name Marty Hansen (from the M.H. initials on his belt buckle) & ended up in Brookville on a farm run by crippled Maggie Simmons (played by Suzanne Rogers) #DAYS
Mickey/Marty & Maggie fell in love & wed in 1974, but the marriage was invalid since he was still legally married to Laura. Maggie found out who Marty really was, but kept the truth a secret out of fear of losing him #DAYS
When Marty eventually found out who he was (thanks to a newspaper clipping about a farming award), he refused surgery to return his memory because he didn't like Mickey very much. He then divorced Laura & rewed Maggie legally #DAYS
Mickey (still with amnesia) & Maggie continued to live on the farm as he got to know his family again. When Mickey discovered Mike was his biological child & the lies that had been told him, his full memory returned & he had a complete mental break, trying to kill Bill #DAYS
Mickey was confined to a sanitarium and gradually regained his sanity & his life. #DAYS
Not able to give Maggie a child of her own, Mickey & Maggie became foster parents of little Janice Barnes in the late 70s. They made plans to adopt, but Janice's mother returned & wanted her back which sent Maggie turning to alcohol to cope #DAYS
in 1981, Maggie joins the surrogate mother program to experience motherhood. Mickey doesn't think it's a good idea. Maggie ends up not wanting to give up the baby, Sarah (b. December 25, 1981) #DAYS
When the wife of the couple dies, the bio-dad of Sarah (Evan Wyland) decides he doesn't want the baby anymore & Maggie keeps her & Mickey becomes her legal father. Later, when Melissa runs away from Linda, Mickey & Maggie become Melissa's legal guardians #DAYS
After Evan Whyland (played by Lane Davies) is killed in a car accident arranged by Stefano, Mickey sets off to prove Stefano's guilt & is presumed dead in a plane crash, but in reality is held captive on an island by Stefano for the better part of a year #DAYS
When Mickey returns, Maggie (believing him dead) has moved on with Don Craig. Seeing Don/Maggie together promptly gives Mickey a heart attack. Although Don/Maggie make plans to wed, she's torn and ends up ending the engagement & leaving town #DAYS
Maggie returns a year later & she is Mickey begin to reconcile until she's raped by the hospital rapist. She gets a gun for protection, but ends up almost accidentally shooting Mickey. Mickey/Maggie rewed in a double wedding with Pete & Melissa on Valentine's Day 1986 #DAYS
In the early 90s, it is revealed that Evan wasn't really Sarah's bio-father at all. Instead, it was long-time friend Neil Curtis who'd used his own sperm & had secretly harbored feelings for Maggie. Mickey/Maggie were having problems & Neil/Maggie began an affair #DAYS
teen Sarah discovered Neil/Maggie's affair and began to act out. However, everything ended up settled & Mickey/Maggie reconciled & shifted squarely to the back burner #DAYS
After Maggie was "killed" by the Salem Stalker in 2003, Mickey become involved with Bonnie Lockhart who he married in 2004. After Maggie was revealed alive, Mickey & Maggie eventually reconciled & stayed together until he died on January 8, 2010. #DAYS
I'll come back to this later and do Bill & Marie
Bill Horton was played by Paul Carr (1965-1966); Edward Mallory (1966-1980); & Christopher Stone (1986-1987). Mallory & Stone would alternate popping up as Bill for short-term & guest appearances in the early 90s & last by John Martin in 2010 #DAYS
Bill Horton returned from college (Harvard) as a surgical intern & became involved with psychiatry intern Laura Spencer. They fell in love & planned to wed, but when Bill learned he had bone tuberculosis that could prevent him from ever performing surgery, he fled town #DAYS
It was while Bill was away sorting out his life that he met Mark Brooks (really his amnesiac brother Tommy). Meanwhile, abandoned Laura fell in love with his other brother Mickey while they were working to clear Susan Martin of murder #DAYS
"Mark" convinced Bill to return to Salem (coming with him) to receive treatment. Bill recovered the use of his hand and despite Mickey/Laura marrying, Bill still loved her. Then one night a drunken, jealous Bill raped Laura & she became pregnant #DAYS
Bill had been so drunk that he didn't even remember the act & Laura told him that nothing had happened to keep peace between Bill/Mickey. When Bill accidentally learned Mickey was sterile & couldn't be the baby's father, he realized the truth #DAYS
Bill, Laura, & Tom decided to keep the secret to protect Mickey from the truth and protect Baby Mike from a scandal. However, when Tommy's ex-wife Kitty found out (via an accidentally tape recording), she used the information to blackmail Bill #DAYS
Bill & Kitty fought over the tape, but Kitty (who had a heart condition) suffered a heart attack during the confrontation & died. Bill was arrested & charged with manslaughter for causing her death. #DAYS
Bill refused to aid in his own defense by giving a reason for his fight with Kitty because doing so would expose the truth about Mike's paternity & he wanted to protect Laura. He was found guilty & sentenced to prison where he met his cellmate Brent Douglas #DAYS
When Bill returned, he dated Mickey's secretary Linda Patterson. But Linda & Mickey were having their own affair & Laura/Mickey's marriage wasn't happy. When Laura found out the real reason Bill went to prison (to protect her), she began to fall in love with him again #DAYS
After rediscovering their love, Laura planned to leave Mickey to be with Bill, but a now young teen Mike overheard, believed them to be having an affair (they weren't), confronted them, & was hit by a car. Mike recovered, but told Uncle Bill he hated him #DAYS
When Mike later learned Mickey & Linda were having an affair (and he was supposedly the father of her daughter Melissa), Mickey & Mike fought, causing Mickey to have a heart attack & later a stroke in the hospital #DAYS
While Mickey disappeared & was believed dead, Bill & Laura found their way back to each other and wanted to wed. When amnesiac Mickey turned up alive, Mickey willingly gave Laura a divorce and Bill & Laura finally wed in 1975 #DAYS
When Mike had an accident at Mickey/Maggie's farm in Brookville & needed blood, Mickey found out he couldn't be Mike's father & discovered the truth - which brought back his memory & caused a complete mental collapse during which he tried to kill Bill #DAYS
With the truth about Mike's paternity finally out, Bill & Mike's relationship was strained. Mike would always refer to Mickey as "Dad" & Bill by his given name. #DAYS
Laura gave birth to her & Bill's daughter Jennifer Rose when they became stranded at a farmhouse during a snowstorm while driving to visit Mickey in the sanitarium on February 9, 1976 (although in the 90s, the date was changed to September 11) #DAYS
In the late 70s, Bill became involved with his co-worked Dr. Kate Winograd. Meanwhile, Laura began to suffer from mental illness when she began to hear he late mother Carrie's voice (Carrie had been institutionalized & had hung herself). #DAYS
Growing increasingly erratic, Laura continued to see patients, giving much questionable psychiatric advice. Bill left Laura to move in with Kate, but ended the relationship to return to Laura to help her recover. #DAYS
Kate Winograd was the basis for Bill's relationship with Kate Roberts (as it supposedly occurred during the same time period) & Kate R essentially replaced Kate W in storyline continuity. #DAYS
Kate Roberts got pregnant by Bill & gave birth to Lucas, but these facts were not known until the early 80s in a storyline rewrite. Bill & Laura reunited and Laura recovered from her mental illness before both Bill & Laura left Salem together with Jennifer in 1980 #DAYS
Sometime during the early 80s, Laura was said to have relapsed off-screen & was institutionalized. However, during the Kate Roberts rewrite, it was said that Bill left town after Laura was institutionalized. #DAYS
Bill returned to Salem in 1987 and began a relationship with a now grown Janice Barnes (Mickey/Maggie's foster daughter in the late 70s) who was also dating his son Mike. Guilt over betraying a hospitalized Laura (off-camera) caused him to end the relationship & leave town #DAYS
Bill would return several times in the early 90s for short stints, 1st for Jack/Jennifer's wedding, & then for the reveal that Lucas was his son (and the return of Laura). Bill was last seen during Alice's funeral in 2010 & died off-camera in 2020 #DAYS
Marie Horton was played by Maree (then Marie) Cheatham (1965-1968 then off/on from 1971-1973), Kate Woodville (1977), & Lanna Saunders (1979-1985). Maree Cheatham has played the role whenever Marie returns to town for a visit since 1994. #DAYS
When the show began in 1965, Marie was engaged to marry next door neighbor Tony Merritt. Before the wedding, Tony learns he's dying of a rare blood disorder & leaves Marie without explanation to protect her. Fragile Marie falls into deep depression & attempts suicide #DAYS
Tom rushes to Marie's side to save her, but in doing so neglects an urgent hospital call to aid a critical patient who then dies. Tom is sued for malpractice, but refuses to say why he ignored the call to protect Marie & nearly loses his license. #DAYS
The truth comes out & Tom is cleared. Marie rebounds by marrying Tony's father Craig Merritt in 1966. Marie becomes pregnant, but has a miscarriage, then suffers a nervous breakdown. When a recovered Tony returns & reveals the truth of his absence, Craig steps aside #DAYS
Tony/Marie try to make their relationship work, but can't & they end things & Tony leaves town again. Marie then becomes involved with new doctor Mark Brooks who turns out to be her presumed dead older brother (girl can't catch a break) #DAYS
Unable to deal with having fallen in love with her own brother, Marie leaves town to become a medical missionary in Africa before moving to New York. This time in New York would be explored years later #DAYS
Marie returned in the early 70s having become a nun & would function in a recurring talk-to capacity for most of the 70s #DAYS
Sister Marie returned as a regular character in 1979 & it was revealed that during her time in NY she'd had an affair with Alex Marshall that also involved illicit drugs & sadomasochistic sex. #DAYS
Marie had become pregnant, but put the baby (a girl) up for adoption & joined the convent. Seeing Alex brought back old feelings. Then Marie discovers that new student nurse Jessica Blake is the baby she gave away #DAYS
Marie tries to keep the truth from Alex (and Jessica) but finally confesses all & Alex & Marie fly to Canada to the convent Jessica was born in for more answers, but the plane crashes in the show - and Alex/Marie rediscover their love #DAYS
Alex/Marie plan to wed & Marie leaves the convent to do so, but have to deal with Alex's scheming ex-wife Mary Anderson. Meanwhile, Alex/Marie tell Jessica the truth. Jessica hates Marie for giving her up & ends up joining the convent herself #DAYS
What Alex/Marie don't know is that Jessica has developed split personalities - Jessica, sweet Angel, & dastardly, vindictive Angelique. Jessica ends up recovering & reconciling with Alex/Marie, but Alex/Marie's relationship falls apart & they never do marry #DAYS
Marie then becomes involved with co-worker Dr. Neil Curtis (recently spurned by his true love Liz Chandler) & they impulsively wed in 1983. But Neil/Liz are still in love & begin an affair behind Marie's back. #DAYS
When Marie returns home early from a conference, Liz (who's alone in Neil's bed) accidentally shoots her thinking she's a burglar. Liz is sentenced to prison, Marie recovers, but Neil & Marie divorce. From this point on, Marie has little to do beyond being a talk-to #DAYS
Marie leaves town in 1985, only returning for short visits for family events during the 90s/00s #DAYS
And that's the original 5 (MESSY!) children. Tom & Alice had their damn hands FULL. Coming up next when this thread resumes - the grandchildren #DAYS
Ok. Tommy & Kitty Horton were the parents of Sandy Horton who spent most of her young life believing her father killed in Korea & raised by single mother Kitty who'd flit from one man to another (especially if they were rich & married) #DAYS
Sandy arrived in Salem with Kitty in 1967 as a teen. She was played as a teen/co-ed by Astrid Warner (1967) & Heather North (1967-1972). Heather North is best known as the long running voice of Daphne Blake in the Scooby-Doo cartoons #DAYS
Sandy was really little more than a side-character & her primary storylines involved dealing with her mother's shenanigans until Kitty's death in 1969 & then resenting the Hortons for how they'd treated Kitty #DAYS
Sandy returned to Salem in 1982 as a doctor and was played by Martha Smith (1982) & Pamela Roylance (1983-1984). Smith is best remembered for playing Babs in Animal House & Francine on Scarecrow & Mrs. King #DAYS
Sandy became involved with Dr. Evan Whyland (the then bio-father of Maggie's baby Sarah), but ended things when he cheated on her. When she had to operate on him after a car crash (orchestrated by Stefano), Evan died thanks to Alex Marshall switching medical records #DAYS
Alex had switched the records under Stefano's orders (Evan had been blackmailing Stefano). Sandy was investigated for malpractice, but was cleared. Later, Sandy essentially became a talk-to for other characters & briefly dated Chris Kositchek before disappearing from town #DAYS
I've always thought Sandy was a character ripe for bringing on new Horton cousins since nothing has been heard from her since 1984 #DAYS
ok. now. this is going to be a section.....

Addie & Ben Olson are the parents of Julie Olson (b.1949) & Steven Olson (b. early 1950s) #DAYS
Julie has been played by Charla Doherty (1965-1966); Catherine Dunn (1967); Cathy Ferrar (1967-1968); & Susan Seaforth (Hayes) (since 1968) #DAYS
Troubled teen Julie clashed with her neglectful parents. The 1st scene of the 1st episode is of Julie shoplifting a fur stole (and later being WAY overly dramatic about it) #DAYS
Young Julie had a boyfriend David Martin & a BFF in Susan Hunter (Susan's mother was dating Julie's uncle Mickey) #DAYS
When Ben & Addie decided to move to Paris with Steven, they left Julie to live with Tom & Alice. Meanwhile, Julie was secretly engaged to be married to David... until BFF Susan slept with David in the back seat of his car & got pregnant #DAYS
Susan didn't want the baby. Susan didn't want David. David didn't want Susan. Hell, David & Susan didn't even LIKE one another, but due to the times, Susan & David got married to give the baby a name with the plan of giving the baby up for adoption #DAYS
David came from money & when Susan heard they had stables, Susan fantasized about having a horseback riding accident in order to lose the baby. But she didn't & she gave birth to the 1st baby on the show - Dickie Martin - and ended up falling in love with the baby #DAYS
Now, Susan was stuck in a marriage she didn't want. And David still loved Julie (and Julie him). To be fair, David was kind of a dog. David & Julie began an affair behind Susan's back & with the plan of eventually being together #DAYS
That would never be. David was rather neglectful & while under David's care, little Dickie was killed in a playground accident. Out of her mind with grief, Susan shot & killed David #DAYS
Susan was defended by Mickey & her psychiatrist Laura & was acquitted on the grounds of temporary insanity - and inherited quite a bit of money from the husband she'd killed lol #DAYS
Meanwhile, Julie found out that she was pregnant by dead David. When the baby was born (1968), she allowed herself (unmarried) to be talked into giving the baby up for adoption by Tom & Alice and Julie left town #DAYS
Julie was living in San Francisco prior to returning to Salem. Meanwhile, the baby is adopted by Scott & Janet Banning & named Brad - who just so happen to be Susan's next door neighbors. #DAYS
Due to Janet's poor health. Susan begins helping with the baby & becomes quite fond of him (and Scott). Then Julie returns to Salem, regretful for having been talked into giving up her baby #DAYS
Julie discovers that Brad Banning is really her baby & wants him back. When Janet dies, Susan marries to Scott (1969) to accomplish this (and partly to spite Susan who she knows wants Scott). None of this set very well with Susan #DAYS
in 1970, Bill Horton's cell mate Brent Douglas is released & hightails it to Salem. A con man, he has his sights set on Susan's inheritance & he takes the new name Doug Williams. Susan sees right through him, but sees an opportunity & pays Doug to disrupt Julie's marriage #DAYS
The plan goes well when Julie does fall for Doug... by awry when Doug actually falls for Julie. Too bad Julie's very married to Scott. #DAYS
After Julie's father dies in 1971, her mother Addie returns to Salem & is NOT happy with Julie carrying on with Doug behind Scott's back which causes much friction. Addie didn't like Doug & Doug thought Addie was uptight & repressed #DAYS
When Doug & Julie planned to run off together, Doug wanted Julie to leave young son David (at some point, they changed his name from Brad to David actually in the story) behind, but after all she did to get him back, she refused #DAYS
Doug commiserated with Addie. One thing led to another & Doug & Addie ended up eloping to Portofino with the tickets he'd actually bought for Julie. Julie was crushed #DAYS
But not as crushed as poor Scott who ended up dying in a construction accident in 1973. Julie was now free to be with Doug... but Doug was married to her mother (what did I tell you about messy?) #DAYS
town newcomers Bob & Phyllis Anderson (Bob owns Anderson Manufacturing where Scott worked when he was killed) felt bad for young widow Julie & moved her into their home. Julie still longs for Doug & feels betrayed by her mother #DAYS
When Addie found out she was having Doug's baby, Julie realized he was lost to her forever & decided to no longer live for love - but money & security and set her sights on older, married Bob Anderson #DAYS
meanwhile, Addie was diagnosed with leukemia & Julie saw how much Doug & Addie had actually grown to love one another. Julie successfully splits up Bob & Phyllis & marries Bob in 1974 #DAYS
Phyllis blames Julie for the ruination of her marriage & tries to shoot her, but accidentally shoots her daughter with Bob, Mary, instead #DAYS
When Addie thought she was going to die after giving birth to baby Hope, Addie & Julie reconciled and Addie made Julie promise to take care of both Doug & Hope. However, Addie ended up recovering #DAYS
However, Addie died when she was hit by a car in 1974, leaving Doug a widower. Now grown David Banning returns in 1975 (with scheming girlfriend Brooke Hamilton in tow) to get his hands on his inheritance from grandma Addie. David & Julie are estranged & at odds #DAYS
David accuses Julie of carrying on with Doug behind Bob's back (as well as behind Addie's) & even gets Alice to suspect it's true. When Julie becomes pregnant by Bob, David thinks Doug's the real father #DAYS
When David drives off a bridge & is presumed dead, Julie is grief stricken. After a time, Julie learns David is really alive & in her rush to get to him, falls down the stairs & delivers prematurely a stillborn baby (Bob Anderson Jr.) #DAYS
With the baby being the only thing really keeping Bob & Julie together, Bob & Julie divorced in 1976 & she reunited with Doug. Doug & Julie planned to marry, but then Doug's 1st wife, supposedly "Polynesian Princess," Kim Douglas arrived claiming they weren't divorced #DAYS
Doug & Julie fought over Kim (who loved making trouble), ended up separating, & Julie became involved with her divorce attorney Don Craig. Don/Julie & Doug/Kim each became engaged out of spite #DAYS
Don/Julie & Doug/Kim planned dueling weddings ON THE SAME DAY at churches AROUND THE CORNER from one another. Then, the night before the wedding, Doug was injured in a car accident & Julie immediately rushed to his side #DAYS
This essentially put the kibosh on the dueling weddings & Kim confessed that she & Doug really had been divorced all those years ago. Doug & Julie reunited & finally wed on October 1, 1976 #DAYS
left to right:
Rebecca North, Maggie Horton, Laura Horton, Amanda Peters, Julie, Doug, Alice Horton, Tom Horton, Robert LeClair (front), Bill Horton, Greg Peters, Tommy Horton, David Banning #DAYS
Julie takes over the mothering of young Hope (who can be a bit of a bratty hellion). Meanwhile, Doug's club Doug's Place (originally bought for him by Addie) falls on hard times & he loses his liquor license. Julie buys the club & turns it into a coffee house #DAYS
What neither Doug nor Julie knows is that they are being targeted by nefarious Larry Atwood whose deliberately causing problems to ruin the club. And he has an eye for Julie. While Doug is out of town, Larry rapes Julie. #DAYS
When Larry ends up murdered, Julie is arrested, charged, & tried for the murder, but it turns out it was someone else (I honestly forget who lolol). Then Doug finds out he has a rich brother Byron Carmichael (Bill Hayes in a dual role) #DAYS
Doug & Byron were put in separate orphanages as children. Byron is dying & leaves his entire estate to Doug. Unfortunately, that estate also includes a scheming wife Lee Dumonde who hightails it to Salem after Byron's death to get her hands on the money #DAYS
Lee sets her sights on Doug. Meanwhile, Julie is disfigured when Maggie's stove blows up in her face. Despondent over the lose of her looks & believing Doug could never love her in her state (and thanks to wonky advice by crazy Laura), Julie gets a Mexican divorce in 1979 #DAYS
Although Julie had been told by doctors that nothing could be done for her scars, she ended up able to have successful surgery to restore her looks, but by this point, she'd pushed Doug away so much that she pushed him right into Lee's arms & Doug & Lee wed in 1979 #DAYS
Lee hated Little Hope. Hope hated Lee (and was quite vocal about it). But Doug & Julie were still drawn together. Doug bought & opened a new Doug's Place at the Lake (a resort) in 1980. Lee plotted to have Julie murdered, but ended up shot instead & faked paralysis #DAYS
Lee's schemes were finally exposed (Lee really was a delightful villainess) & Doug divorced Lee and Doug & Julie rewed in 1981 #DAYS
There used to be a scene on youtube where Doug chewed Lee's ass OUT on the day of the wedding, threatened her to never cause Julie another day of misery, ripped out the phone, & locked her in a room to keep her from disrupting the wedding. It was GLORIOUS #DAYS
After this, Doug & Julie settled into background characters having silly little capers & being involved in David & now teen Hope's love lives. Doug was famously against Bo/Hope #DAYS
Doug had a heart attack after catching Bo/Hope together about to make love on her 18th birthday. This put Julie/Hope at odds & they fought incessantly. Doug/Julie eventually faded from the show in 1985 & later was said to have left town #DAYS
Doug returned alone in 1987 & it was said he & Julie divorced again off-camera, but he disappeared after Bo & Hope left to sail around the world. Julie returned alone in 1990 & dated Victor for a bit & was involved in various stories (a near romance with a younger man) #DAYS
Doug & Julie reunited in 1994 (Julie's exit storyline) & were said to have remarried off screen some point after and then only returned occasionally for guest visits (notably when Doug was "killed") until the returned as regular recurring characters several years ago #DAYS
Julie's younger brother Steven Olson was played by Flip Mark (1964-1966), James Carroll Jordan (1972), & Stephen Schnetzer (1978-1980) and has never really been that big of a presence. He was just a teen when Ben & Addie moved him to Paris. #DAYS
He returned briefly in 1972 when he finished school, but decided he didn't like Salem & returned to Paris. When Doug & Julie vacationed in Paris in 1978, they ran into Steven & brought him back to Salem, but by this point Steve had become rather shady & a schemer #DAYS
Steven had become involved with drug smugglers & was using Julie's gallery Chez Julie as a front for a diamond smuggling operation & had a girlfriend named Mimi (I think it was Mimi). #DAYS
Trish Clayton ended up stealing some of the diamonds & Maggie (who worked the shop) accidentally sold a cane containing some diamonds. It wasn't the greatest of stories & Steven fled Salem back to Paris. #DAYS
At some point in the early 90s, it was off handedly mentioned by Julie that Steven had a son, but he's never been seen & Steven hasn't been on the show since 1980 #DAYS
Bill & Laura's son Michael Horton was born on November 13, 1968, but for years nearly everyone (including Mike) believed Mickey Horton was his father (Mickey & Laura were married at the time). Only Bill, Laura, & Tom knew the truth. #DAYS
Mike has the distinction of being one of THE most recast characters in soap opera history. Between 1968-1971 no fewer than 6 different child actors played Mike. Although born late 1968, by the time John Amour took over in 1971, Mike was a tween #DAYS
both Dick DeCoit & Stuart Lee played Mike briefly in 1973 before the role was taken on by teen Wesley Eure (1974-1981). Mike was then played by Paul Coufus (1981-1982), Michael T. Weiss (1985-1990), & Roark Critchlow (1994-1999 with a guest return in 2010). #DAYS
In 1972, tween Mike overheard a convo between Bill & Laura and assumed his mother & uncle were having an affair (they weren't) & ran out into the street where he was hit by a car. He recovered. #DAYS
In 1973, a now slightly older Mike (they grow up so fast, don't they?) found out it was actually MICKEY who was having the affair (with his secretary Linda). Mike kept the secret as long as he could until he & Mickey fought over the matter #DAYS
The fight caused Mickey to have a heart attack. While in the hospital recovering (incidentally, Bill performed the surgery saving Mickey's life), Mickey suffered a stroke which resulted in amnesia & he disappeared #DAYS
Mickey was presumed dead until he turned up alive with amnesia in 1975. Mike & Mickey worked to rebuild their relationship, but when Mike was injured in an accident on Mickey & Maggie's farm & Mickey's blood didn't match, Mickey discovered he wasn't Mike's real father #DAYS
Mickey had a mental break, was institutionalized, and Mike was left to sort out his new familial relations after hysterical Mickey blurted out the truth to Mike. Mike turned on Bill & Laura for what they'd done to both him and Mickey. #DAYS
Mike had feelings for close friend Trish Clayton, but could bring himself to act on them & suspected he might be gay. Mickey's former mistress Linda entered the picture wanting Mickey back & decided to do so through Mike #DAYS
Linda took Mike to bed & they began an affair, but Mike was more into it than Linda who pretended Mike was Mickey whenever they has sex. Mike/Linda ended, but he didn't get back with Trish because she'd gotten pregnant by Mike's BFF & cousin David #DAYS
During this period, Mike had also helped Trish through her bought with multiple personalities & the murder of her stepfather Jack Clayton which Trish was guilty off because she'd killed him when he'd tried to force himself on her, which caused her multiple personalities #DAYS
