1/ Some responses to this is that all areas of pastoral ministry demand prayer, gospel, perseverance. Yes and that was the point. But I often get asked "What does it take to minister in NYC?" 2/What is needed in New York (and in Chicago and Atlanta and Phoenix and everywhere else) is spiritual authority rather than cultural authority; a deep grasp of my identity in Christ rather than clever ways of disarming critics.
3/In my short experience, young pastors move to NYC and try to become something they are not, using someone else's voice and it burns them out and potentially blows up their ministry and/or family.
So yes, my original tweet applies to ministry everywhere. But I minister here and in my short experience there is a tendency to *assume* spiritual vibrancy and connectivity to Christ and run after other strengths.
