Vaccine distribution in CA is a mess, esp if you're older and English isn't your first language. A thread. My mom and aunts are 65+ and don't have email addresses. To sign up for a vaccine appointment, you need an email address and you can't use 1 address for multiple people

So my sisters and I signed up for them using our email address. The confirmation says bring a photo ID, doesn't specify what kind. My dad drives my mom and my aunt to Disneyland for their appointment. When they get there, they're turned away.

Why? Their ID didn't show their address. Because in CA, you can only get vaccinated in your county, and you need proof of address. Each county has its own signup process and rules, more confusion.

My sister is a pharmacist and she says workers are spending more time confirmation people's info than putting shots in arms. This is like voter suppression, but for a vaccine meant to stem the tide of a life-threatening illness.

If everyone needs to be vaccinated, why are you making it harder for eligible people to get vaccinated? People who aren't tech savvy don't have email addresses. Undocumented people, older people who live with family don't always have proof of address.

Older people don't all have tech-savvy kids to do this confusing work for them. These rules and processes will just drag out the vaccination timeline. It should not be this hard to get a necessary, life-saving vaccine! Fix this @GavinNewsom or people will fall though the cracks

And unlike regular times, you cannot ignore the people who fall through the cracks. If they don’t get vaccinated, it’s a public health crisis! Also my sister just said pharmacies are fined if they have leftover vaccines and they give it to people not eligible. This helps no one!

Yes, some clinics aren't as strict with appointments or address verification. But many counties don't have a site where you can see all the clinics offering vaccines.
