Dr. Santiago Borasino has a lofty fundraising need this year: 1.5 million dollars. That'll fund research for a lab to test new ideas/new processes, dealing with cardiac arrest and decreasing CA rates, and reducing kidney failure in heart patients after surgery.
Much of that research began at @childrensal in the past decade and has spread across the nation to other heart centers. @LittleHeartDoc (Dr. Zaccagni) talking about how @pc4quality and T3 work at @ChildrensAL - Children's was one of the first centers to begin PC4 research that has saved lives nationally and internationally.
@ChildrensAL is one of 37 'high volume' STS (Society of Thoracic Surgeons) centers: Dr. Borasino says that's a high honor, and it shows the incredible medical resource we have here in Alabama.
@LittleHeartDoc: COVID hasn't changed the number of pediatric heart problems, and it didn't slow down operations.
Fundraising is not quite to the goal yet for 2021; our Heart Center deserves the funding to be able to play on the national stage and continue building their incredible reputation.
Dr. Borasino's goal of 1.5 million in the HOPE Fund creates stability and planning for the future.
