I just heard that the US embassy in Beijing has cancelled visa appointments though Feb 19th. Every week they cancel the next week's visa appointments. There are thousands of students (and others) waiting months for visas to come to study in US. @StateDept can we speed this up?
Closure of Chengdu consulate means more people from there have to crowd to Beijing, Guangzhou offices for visa appointments. Fixing Trump damage to cultural / academic exchange will help end chaos in US-China relations, without compromising values-based policies on hard issues.
In fact, encouraging students to study in each other's countries is the *epitome* of values-based foreign policy. Let's get those student (and other) visas processed! These visa delays for PRC students are the grimy legacy of Trumpist xenophobia and racism, not rational policy.
