organizing groups who work with the city and/or police should be extremely clear that they work with the city and/or police so that people can make fully informed decisions about what spaces they work in. this is literally a question of security and boundaries
DSMNTL posted this on instagram this morning, and I am.....having a lot of thoughts and feelings about the casual admission of coordinating with the mayor’s office. not to mention co-opting and erasing the work of other groups
I am begging everyone to see DSMNTL’s statement for what it is, which is:
• asserting ownership in a collective organizing community
• taking credit for the work of many
• willingness to support the city and do their PR for them
• without getting any concessions
I have many thoughts on this whole thing, but one is that it’s gross to erase the work of other groups/organizers now and in the past; and it’s also gross to talk about a camp full of grown adult people like you’re their landlord
