HAPPENING NOW: Senate cmte hearing testimony on SB 22, which would create oversight committee to rule on Gov's health orders lasting longer than 30 days. 7th grader Jack Burr gets ovation after testimony. "I just want everything to go back the way it was," says Jack.
Jack says hates masks, is lonely, hasn't had a friend over since March. His mother testified as well saying Jack has become depressed, her 1st grader's reading abilities have backslid. Jack and mother Jennifer are from Mason, near Cincinnati.
After Jack's testimony, Sen Cecil Thomas, D of Cincinnati, cites the fact that few in the chamber are wearing masks and he excuses himself to watch proceedings from his office.
Now 17 y.o. home schooled h.s. senior testifying, tired of restrictions. "Every week the guidance changed, if you pushed back, 'you were trying to kill grandma...' Bullying has been sanctioned and codified."
Now testifying in favor of SB 22: Barry Sheets of Health Freedom Ohio and the Center for Christian Virtue. He says SB 22 enacts "reasonable accountability measures" to temper Gov's power to enact health emergencies.
Now Rishanne Golden says her small business has slowed to a trickle b/c of health orders. Also had daughter die from a vaccine-induced illness; second daughter also made ill by vaccine, she says. Family refuses to adhere to restrictions; says they get verbally attacked in public.
Now Doug Golden testifying. Rishanne and Doug lead the group Haleigh's Heart, an anti-vax group after their 20 year-old daughter, a Univ of Cincinnati student and Marysville HS grad died in 2018 after a meingitis vax.
Now Aaron Carter, bar owner, testifying. Says Gov shut down bars/rests, then made exceptions. "To me it was very clear the gov’s intent was to skirt legislative oversight… to keep bars and restaurants closed... we can no longer afford to live under the rule of a single man."
Now testifying, Damon Appel, who notes Sen. Thomas left hearing because of a lack of mask wearing in the chamber, puts his mask on which says "Only Jesus save." "This is madness, it makes no sense... there is no logic to what the Gov has done."
