While CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) is trending - a few facts:
- CAMHS accounts for just 0.7% of NHS spending, and around 6.4% of mental health spending
- a year after the Gov’s 2015 pledge to invest £1.4bn into child mental health services by 2020...
CCGs had only seen £75m of the £250m they’d expected in that first year.
- Since March 2020, referrals to CAMHS for eating disorders has risen by over 50% in some areas
- Lewisham Council is currently planning to cut £250,000 from its contribution to CAMHS
- In January 2020, Pulse revealed that one third (34%) of trusts were only accepting CAMHS patients whose conditions were categorised as ‘severe’ or ‘significant’.
- GPs told Pulse that young people had attempted suicide AFTER being rejected by services
If we want real change, we NEED ring-fenced funding and we NEED to demand far greater accountability about where money is being spent. Boris Johnson can appoint whoever he wants, but without funding, this crisis is only going to get worse.
