The suspension of The Democratic Governance Facility- largest basket donor to civil society by President Museveni demonstrates the increasing hostile environment for NGO's /civil society operating in UG & points more broadly to the difficulty of doing business in UG.
DGF’s beneficiaries are ultimately the most under privileged in our society- indigent men, women, children who receive legal aid through grantees of DGF including Uganda Law Society, land justice actors-who will now lose this in the absence of streamlined legal aid regime.
The broader implication of the DGF suspension is- many would be investors/organisations continue to be hesitant to deploy capital in UG and our ease of doing business rankings keep dropping with the fear that a President may without recourse to the law close you down by letter!
