A few months back I had tweeted that In the post Trump Era, India was looking at a tough few years. Several friends chided me (even calling me an economist

)

Fact is that from a post trump, post peak RW populist era, India can realistically offer 2 key deliverables to the new US admin - high growth and climate change
India and Modi ji clearly are trying for both, with reforms which haven’t been seen in 6-7 years being attempted, and climate change pe India is meeting its Paris targets
That’s partly the reason why LW liberal alliance is trying hard to derail reforms (Agri reforms won’t give much growth), so it delegitimises the Govt and hurts future reforms
The Govt smartly is trying to de-emphasise the farm bills, and is actually taking on greater challenges of selling banks. I feel if the government can deliver on privatisation, India’s economy can find a good tailwind
Not because privatisation delivers growth, but mostly coz Govt means business, and is credibly delivering reforms. That is a very powerful message in itself
Cong and it’s acolytes realise that economy is Modi ji’s weak point to an extent (they have lost on Natl security), so derailing economy is key. Hence hope the Govt is prepared to play Whack-A-Mole on protests across the country in next 2-3 years
If India can navigate next 2 years without any major incident, we would be ok. US policy is mean reverting and USA as a country is very right of centre. So the republicans sill come back, especially as Biden & his team cave in front of China.
