The boy born to June and Stanley Gilchrist, on the 14th of November 1971 would go on to become the greatest wicket keeper batsman the world had ever known.

He made his first class debut for NSW in 1992, he was seen in Australian colours for the first time on 25 October 1996.
He scored 18 and took two catches.

In the Australia tour of South Africa in 1997, he replaced Mark Taylor as a specialist batsman, hitting 77 of 88 at Durban. In only his second innings as an opener he smashes his maiden ODI ton, 100 of 104, in January 1998
At Melbourne in Feb 1999, he smashed Srilanka all around the park for a 129 ball 154 the highest score in ODIs by an Australian at the time.

He donned the baggy green for the first time on the 5th of November 1999, scoring an 88 ball 81 and taking 5 catches, and a stumping.
In his second test Australia were on 126/5 chasing 369 against Pakistan, he then combined with Justin Langer to take Australia home, contributing an excellent 149 not out of 163

In April 2000 he became the 3rd man and the 1st Australian to take ten catches in a match.
Is made captain in only his 12th test after Steve Waugh is injured and leads Australia to 5 wicket win at Adelaide against the West Indies

On August 26 in his 22nd test he completes his 100th dismissal.
He posted his highest score 204 at the Wanderers at almost run a bowl with 8 sixes, smashes another century at Cape Town and finished the series with 473 at 157.66

He got from 100 to 200 test dismissals in 25 tests and becomes only the third Australian to do it.
On January 16 2004 he smashed his highest ODI score, 172 off 126 against Zimbabwe.

Gilly captains Australia in the first three tests against India, ending a 35 year drought for Australia in India as they take an unassailable 2-0 lead.
In march 2005 he hits 3 centuries in 3 consecutive innings, becoming the first Australian since Don Bradman to do so.

In October 2005 he smashes 103 off 79 balls against the world XI, an attack consisting of, Muralitharan, Vettori, Pollock, Flintoff and Akhtar.
He is dismissed by Sehwag.

In November 2006 he passes Rod Marsh to have the second highest dismissals for Wicket Keepers for Australia.

In December that year he hit the second fastest test hundred at the time (off 57 balls) against England at the WACA.
He smashes 149 off 104 balls in the 2007 World Cup final against Sri Lanka, and later reveals that part of his success was using a squash ball inside his gloves.

In November 2007 he became the first batsman to 100 sixes in test cricket.
On January the 4th 2008 he becomes the second wicket keeper ever with 400 test dismissals and on the 25th in his 96th test he surpasses Boucher.

On the 26th he announces he will retire at the end of the CB series.
He scored his 16th and last ODI hundred at his home ground the WACA, against Srilanka.

In the second final of the CB series Australia lose to India by 9 runs, Gilchrist scoring only 2.
Hence came to an end a Glorious career of the Greatest Wicket Keeper Batsman the world had ever known.
Gilchrist was also part of all the three World Cups that Australia won consecutively from 1999-2007.
Gilchrist scored 5570 test runs for Australia at 47.60 with 17 hundreds and 26 fifties, in 96 matches.

Gilly went on to score 9619 ODI runs at 35.89, with 16 centuries and 55 half centuries in in 287 matches.
He has 416 Test dismissals (with 379 catches and 37 stumpings) the second most by any Wicket Keeper.

Gilly also has 472 ODI Dismissals (with 417 catches and 55 stumpings) also the second most by any wicket keeper.
