I think this is a completely correct take & the thing that really depresses me most about it all is that for all the talk of a "new normal", there's not been much of what the pandemic has brought (or might bring) to popular consciousness about the bad aspects of the "old normal". https://twitter.com/jamesdgreig/status/1356938693223841792
It would be nice to escape the dunk economy, the doomerism, and the thought of minimal restoration of the status quo ante, and at least believe & act as if a better world might be imagined out of the ashes of all this horror and misery.
If there is to be a new normal it should not be imagined or established on the power terms of the status quo ante, or on the terms of the darkest & most miserable thought of the future. We can do better than this!
I don't know what more ambitious things might be but we can highlight really, really basic stuff that should be uncontestable now - sick pay, not going to work when you're sick. I'd really love to see more optimistic visions of a future & better world that we can work towards.
