Understanding victim blaming:
First, we attack women and girls behaviour. We ask what she was doing and where she was. Who she was with. When that doesn’t work, we attack her character. We call her promiscuous, naive, vulnerable, too trusting, stupid, a slut.
Often, we do both.

We tend to try to correct women’s behaviours first - and make their lives smaller and smaller. When that doesn’t work, or the woman won’t/can’t do that, we move on to trying to correct her character or personality.

Instead of putting blame and responsibility on offenders, the woman or girl becomes the focus of the intervention - to make her ‘improve’ or ‘change’ or ‘keep herself safer’
