I see people speaking of self-employment and all I think of is my youngest brother, my real definition of knowing what you want early.A story of many young people that I know, born and caught in a maze of life, some figuring it out and most lost in it. Thread đŸ‘‡đŸŸ
When he was young he was smart as in class smart, coming first and all that (even in math) but also taking apart every electronic device in the house, sometimes he will reassemble them, sometimes they will be found before he is done with the fixing and he’ll be ‘disciplined’
He didn’t want to go through the formal school system like I did , he wanted to learn how to fix things, cars, phones, watches etc. By the time he was in class seven our house in Moshi had turned into a fundi shop. He was known for fixing everyone’s phone and gadgets and cars
When he moved to Dar it got better(my folks would have said worse by then), for me it was better, he would disappear with mechanics and before you know it he was good at it. Then we agreed that he will go to VETA in Moshi to perfect his mechanical skills and he excelled, easily
He is entrepreneurial at heart, he didn’t want to be employed( he got offers when still at school) So he went back to Moshi and started his own business fixing phones and cars. Happily, independent, built his own house at a young age , minding his own business and lend me money😊
When the government announced that every one fixing phones need to attend a course and be certified, thanks for the government for covering the costs for that,he did go for the first batch and it was easy-peasy for him, all levels as in beginners, intermediate and advanced.
I shared this one not because its my brother but because it is a story of many young people I know. Having big dreams, not wanting to go through the traditional means but ready to put in work, dedication and discipline. He is the most disciplined person I know, with work and money
We talk and his dreams scare me, he was to go to China to learn about phone assembling and car assembling, he wants to one day be able to build factories here. Is there hope for him? Maybe, but he still needs permission from lots of people who don’t even know how it is done.
It’s not just about him. It’s a system that makes him, the family that grooms him, the opportunities and possibilities that surrounds him. How does one easily get out of a maze when everyone around him is still lost in it?Its not just about him.
