Hasegawa is one character I absolutely love, that I feel I don't talk about as much, or why.

Madao always finds himself at rock bottom, he makes mistakes, rarely ever wins or comes out on top, life for him is harsh and unfair.
Although he always finds himself, underserving, defeated, depressed, in the depths of despair & wanting to die, he doesn't give up and without exception manages to climb back up
Despite being able to overcome his hardships, his devotion, kindness, unselfishness & his predisposition to sacrificing his time, happiness and comfort for others leads him back to the the lifestyle he so desperately wants to leave

Ironically creating a cycle he can't escape
Regardless of that, he stays true to himself and chooses to live his life how he wants to. Willing to help others and show kindness

well aware that his empathy without boundaries is his self-destruction & it will drag him back to his MADAO lifestyle
