On the subject of diversity, I take it very seriously & it's in my team's DNA. We're 47% female, 16% BIPOC, 21% LGBTQIA+ and 11% with chronic conditions. My target is 24% BIPOC and 20% CC (hidden and visible conditions.) Stats were given voluntarily and anonymously.
This doesn't mean we hire to meet targets, it means we can see if we're balanced. If we're below target we will review everything from how we're wording our job descriptions to where we're advertising and who's on our interview panel.
We'll hire the best person for the job, but not until we're convinced we've every potential 'best person' possible has had the opportunity to be considered.
It's not a recent thing for a Twitter brag; when I joined SE I started the Pride Group with @VintageFavour. 4 years ago it was unthinkable that SE would march in a Pride parade, 2 years later we did just that. I also hosted IWD and brought in external groups such as BAME in Games
Through that movement we now have an Underrepresented Genders group & a RED (Racial and Ethnic Diversity) Group with more initiatives coming. I'm rewriting our game review process so all projects will be reviewed by these groups to bolster representation much deeper in our roots
Our audiences need to be represented in our games but that's only going to happen when we have diversity behind the scenes. Anyone decent industry person will tell you we still have a long way to go
If this is something you're interested in I highly recommend diversifying your follows too - here are some people that I look up to (sorry if I miss people!) @AC_Revolution, @osamadorias, @blackgirlgamers/ @jayannlopez_, @Popelady @MrMidasGames, @studioanisa, @TheAlbionGirl
