A shift away from numbers of volunteers as a metric of success would be very welcome. However, it’s all well and good to ‘trust the local’ but if we’re going to learn from the last year let’s remember local infrastructure plays a key role (2/4)
Simply trusting the local won’t cut it if there isn’t something there to support, encourage and connect. Sadly much of that has been dismantled during the decade of austerity. The biggest loss has been people, relationships and trust. (3/4)
So if the minister and government really want to change tack in future they could start by seriously looking at support for local volunteering infrastructure, Councils for Voluntary Service etc. and bodies such as @NAVCA (4/4)
