An interesting graphic from @RedTractorFood about what happens if RT is seen to fail. Let's break it down.
Shoppers will disregard RT and buy on price.

This ALREADY HAPPENS! There is no price premium for RT arable products - in fact, most of them don't even display the logo.
Government will inspect us more.

Easy to claim, but I don't believe it is true in the arable sector. RPA certainly aren't linked to RT, I'd like to see evidence of what is.
Farmers will have to compete on price.

See above. This is already the case. There is definitively NO PREMIUM for RT assurance on arable products.
Buyers will import more.

They are ALREADY importing exactly as much non-assured grain as they want, and not paying any less for it. Ditto imported sugar cane products, which sell at zero discount to British RT assured sugar.
Unfortunately I feel like this assumption within @RedTractorFood that they are so essential to the industry is deluded, and explains the reluctance to admit what should be very clear.

The system is broken.
