When I was a little kid, my best friend was shot in the back of the neck.
He became a quadriplegic. And I became an advocate and am now the President of @PWDAustralia.
But now our Minister has said on @2GB873 that disabled people shouldn't have the same rights as others.

2/ Let's be clear here what we are talking about. We're not only talking about 'prostitutes', an outdated and offensive term that's probably deliberately used. We're talking about disabled people being able to retrieve sperm - outside surgery, that's how it's done.
3/ We're talking about pleasuring a partner - imagine, Mr Hadley, if you broke your neck & couldn't use your hands or your important bits. Would you still expect to have a usual sex life with your wife? Would you need a sex therapist, or a modified vibrator?
Why, yes, you would.
Why, yes, you would.
4/ I want to see the evidence that millions upon millions of dollars are used for sex workers. @TouchingBaseInc, who are one of the few discrete sex work orgs who specialise in disability, must be rolling in it, if that's the case.
And - this is a red herring.
And - this is a red herring.
5/ The government wants us all swimming in outrage so that we change the NDIS Act to put through the terrible reform program around #IndependentAssessments that they've planned. They will stop people not just having sex, but living their lives. Or staying alive, potentially.
6/ We'll be speaking about this today and tomorrow, but what you need to remember is this - the outrage that is fueled is designed to make you reject some very serious austerity measures that have the potential to kill disabled four year olds. I honestly believe this.
7/ My sympathy to the brave disabled woman who just wanted to get some assistance to masturbate and whose legitimate story has been misappropriated and exploited for political gain. Here is the PWDA position statement on sex, sexuality and the NDIS. https://dpoa.org.au/joint-position-statement-a-call-for-a-rights-based-framework-for-sexuality-in-the-ndis/
8/ Every adult, with disability or not, has a right to seek consensual sexual expression.
We have a right to a sexual life, just like everyone else.

And @SaraGingold, you were right. https://teamdsc.com.au/resources/sex-ndis-federal-court

@bairdjulia and @ellenmfanning no more assistance with sex for the disabled people fyi. Sucks if you are a married couple who both have cerebral palsy and want to be positioned in bed together at ten pm. Your average nice lady from Baptistcare isn't going to give you a hand.
