#Thread about #designtools I used to create this #DigitalHealthWeek21 ePoster! If u like it, vote for it everyday until 11 Feb😊1) Before I started designing, I analysed the data & defined 'key message'. Its the hardest step! Pls share ur tips too #AcademicChatter
@OpenAcademics https://twitter.com/NataLazzza/status/1353621401605787648
2) Canvas + content 📊📈
I sized the poster according to the submission criteria in @InDesign (841 mm x 1189mm). U can do the same in PowerPoint😊
I then wrote all the content I wanted to include according to the key message I wanted the poster to address. @GraphPad for figures
4) Font magic 🪄🪄
I used @fontpair to ensue the fonts for the header and paragraph text paired well. I used Montserrat for the headings & Source Sans Pro for the paragraphs. Font sizes: title=80, headings=50 & paragraph=30. <25 is a bit too small I think.
5) Colour scheme (the part I spent way too much time doing)!
I used @coolors_co to match a colour palette & used the colour blindness tool for accessibility.
I chose pastel pink ( #d8a8aa) & timberwolf gray ( #C7C7BB) as my main colours bc pink is pretty! 💁🏽‍♀️
6) Adding content + ordering it
I tried to order the content in a logical manner & separated the page into 2 columns! I aligned the aims/figures/conclusions using numbers. I made the background colour of extra important content like 'consequences' PINK!
7) Symmetry & alignment matter! 📏
I spent quite a lot time ensuring the content was symmetrical & aligned properly using rulers (tool exists in indesign & powerpoint)
8) Graphics🎨
I used @sketchbookapp to draw the illustration of the pregnant woman. I wanted her to appear powerful! She is self-monitoring her own health. I placed the woman centrally as she is the main focus.
@blushdesignapp - healthcare prof & @nounproject - icons.
And then got a bunch of people to check it + my amazing supervisors @caillaudsydney & @CelineBoehm1 ☺️☺️ Thank you!
