10 digital tips for authors that will make your publisher's marketing team very happy:
1. Tag your pub every time you promote yr book on social. On Instagram, TAG THEM IN THE PHOTO ~in addition to~ the description mention. It's easier for SM managers to find these posts.

2. KEEP YOUR WEBSITE UPDATED! Don't know how or don't have one? Your marketing team has tons of advice & would love to point you in the right directions.
At minimum it should have:
- buy links
- contact info

3. Do you have a virtual event coming up? Prepare! Practice talking about your book (nail that one line pitch), check your internet connectivity speeds (tons of free online tests), figure out a decent set up & lighting ahead of time.
Don't forget to promote your event!

4. If your social handle isn't your published name, then make sure to add it to your description, otherwise it can be hard to find you when we're scheduling content!
And make sure your social bios are up to date with a link to your website or set up a Linktree type of account!

5. Giveaways! Most pubs don't/can't run international giveaways bc of ~laws~ but YOU can! Worried about the cost of fulfillment? Reach out to your team and see if they'd be up for a collab: you host/run the giveaway but they fulfill.
6. Make sure you are set up as an official author on Goodreads and get that profile *sparkling!* More info on this: https://www.goodreads.com/author/program
But while you're on GR setting this up, for the love of all that is holy, DO NOT READ YOUR REVIEWS.

7. This is a big one but if you are making assets for your book, ANY ASSETS (social graphics, a trailer, banners, ANYTHING) please please please ***share*** with your marketing team! And vice versa! Ask them to share any/all assets they create with you!
8. Drop those buy links frequently! Assume only 20% of your followers see one of your posts, so dont sorry about "repeating yourself." Post at different times of the day to reach different sets of your audience! Make it easy for ppl to find your stuff, buy links help with that!
9. Promoting your own book online is exhausting and often overwhelming. It's okay (good) to take breaks. Let your team know what you're comfortable with & resist the urge to agree to whatever your team suggests. Do what's best for YOU first.
10. Take the time to pinpoint the #1 thing that will matter to you the most. Example: If social isn't important to you and you care more about press coverage, TELL YOUR TEAM. If social is the *only* thing you care about, TELL THEM. They want to make you happy!
Finally, sometimes it can feel like no marketing is being done to support your book & that's frustrating, but know that there is so much happening behind the scenes you may never see. Social media is not the only kind of book marketing. It's just one slice of the pie.

Also, fellow book marketing ppl, please feel free to add on to this! This is, like, barely scratching the surface!
